Enter and View - Chester le Street Community Mental Health Unit

This report presents the findings from our authorised representatives' 'Enter and View' visit to Chester le Street Community Mental Health Unit on 6th November where they gathered valuable feedback from service users and the staff.

Our trained representatives went into Chester le Street Hospital to get feedback from the patients using the adult community mental health service. Service users and staff shared a range of experiences and feedback with us on the day and also sent feedback via post and email.

Recommendations

  • Look to improve staff training and support in ‘managing difficult/aggressive’ situations and encouraging staff compassion for users.
  • New I.T. software training, especially around ‘Care plan development’ and users ‘personal files.’ This will ensure that staff feel more confident, and users are aware, involved in their own care plans and errors are limited
  • Look at how to manage the issue of access to rooms/services (operation times) - look to use less clinical spaces within the community if access is limited.
  • Look at how individuals are encouraged and specifically supported to complain who need extra help.
  • Continue to check with individual users how they would like their Mental Health history used.
